The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has pledged US$100,000 to support Jamaica’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa. This contribution highlights the Federation’s commitment to regional cooperation and mutual aid during natural disasters.
SUPPORTING JAMAICA’S RECOVERY
Hurricane Melissa, which struck Jamaica in early November 2025, caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and communities. The pledged funds will contribute to rebuilding critical infrastructure, restoring essential services, and supporting affected families.
STRENGTHENING CARIBBEAN COOPERATION
The US$100,000 pledge reflects Saint Kitts and Nevis’ ongoing commitment to regional development and disaster preparedness. By supporting neighbouring countries, the Federation reinforces its role as a responsible and caring partner within the Caribbean community.
According to the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, this contribution reflects the deep sense of St Kitts and Nevis’ regional solidarity and compassion for its Caribbean counterparts in times of need.
ST. KITTS AND NEVIS AS A REGIONAL LEADER
St. Kitts and Nevis has long been a leader in regional collaboration across the Caribbean. As a founding member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), it hosted the signing of the original Treaty of Basseterre in Basseterre, solidifying its commitment to economic and political integration. The Federation played host to the Ninth Council of Ministers meeting for Human and Social Development, and Education for the OECS in September 2024, underscoring its role as a hub for regional policy‑making.
St. Kitts and Nevis has also been central in region-wide sustainable development efforts. It participates in the Caribbean Challenge Initiative (CCI), a biodiversity conservation initiative that brings together island nations to protect coastal and marine environments. Furthermore, the country has championed clean energy cooperation: in 2016, it hosted a regional geothermal forum in partnership with OECS and CARICOM to explore geothermal energy development across the Caribbean.
